"Sangha" is a Sanskrit term that refers to, at its broadest, the community of Buddhist practitioners.  It can also indicate ordained monks and nuns and, in the absolute sense, those beings who have attained an ultimate understanding of phenomena and shine as a model for those still striving on the Path to Enlightenment.

Listed below are brief descriptions of a few deities and historical beings who encompass the rare and precious qualities of Sangha.  Due to their nature, Sangha is likened to a gem and is one of the Three Jewels of Refuge for Buddhists.
