Geshe Ngawang Kaldan Geshe Ngawang Kaldan was born in the Kham province of southeastern Tibet. He studied for 15 years in the Monastic university of Drepung near Lhasa, Tibet, and received his Geshe Lharampa Degree, from His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama. Geshe Kaldan escaped Tibet after the Chinese occupation in 1959 and emigrated to Canada in 1974 under the sponsorship of 4 Canadian families.

Geshe Kaldan was asked to teach in Edmonton in December 1986 and the first sit was in January 1987. While in Edmonton he taught meditation and Tibetan language at Grant MacEwan College. In April 1987, Geshe Kaldan moved to Toronto, Ontario, where he spent several years teaching Tibetan and Buddhism at the University of Toronto.

In May 1993 Geshe Kaldan moved back to Edmonton. He was The Resident Teacher of Gaden Samten Ling Tibetan Buddhist Meditation Centre for eight years, and taught 2 meditation sessions per week, as well as holding personal appointments with students. Geshe Kaldan gave teachings and retreats throughout the year on the Four Foundation Practices, Medicine Buddha, White Tara, Chenrezig and Vajrasattva. Geshe Kaldan was very loved and respected by his many students. Geshe Kaldan passed away on February 23, 1998. He is very much missed.
